Always find your way to the McCord Museum thanks to an impressive Inukshuk. An inuksuk (plural inuksuit) is a man-made landmark of stacked, unsculpted stones in the shape of a person with arms outstretched. Inuksuit are erected at strategic places, usually visible from far away, and serve several functions, including guiding travellers, warning of danger, assisting hunters and marking places of reverence. They are a well-known symbol of the Canadian Arctic. Created by Inuk artist Jusipi Naluktuk, this 9-tonne structure is comprised of over 200 stones and measures over 3 metres tall by 2.7 metres wide. It was first constructed on the island of Naqsaluk, off Inukjuak in Nunavik, then disassembled for transport to Montréal.
