A new centre for food and culture constructed out of iconic MR-63 metro (or subway) cars from 1966 will soon be erected in Place William Dow at the heart of Griffintown. In partnership with creative organizations, the MR-63 Pavilion will offer an array of products and services in addition to artistic, design and culinary programming featuring 100% local talent. Construction of this inclusive and vectorial discovery space will commence in 2024!

An eco-responsible, design and cultural project

Inspired by modernism and retrofuturism, this new 3-storey building will be comprised of eight former metro cars and will feature a resto-bar, exhibition hall, conference room and shop dedicated to local products. Plans also include a 300-seat digital auditorium and a green roof terrasse. Highly conscious of environmental issues, the team will build according to strict sustainable development principles, from energy consumption and choice of materials to the integration of nature into the building's design.

MR-63 will provide an opportunity for young professionals from the neighborhood to discover local talent as well as for anyone curious to explore local Montréal culture.

Terrasse MR

A public place for one last summer

Before the project gets underway, the organization will offer a final, ephemeral public place where people can experience the MR-63 on the site of the future building. Just like the future permanent pavilion, you’ll find a bar, local eats and an evolving calendar of music and events showcasing local talent. Stay tuned for programming details.
