It’s nearly tee time! Presidents Cup 2024 in Montréal
Montréal is primed to host the 2024 Presidents Cupfrom September 24 to 29, 2024 — the prestigious golfing event’s 15th edition, no less! And tickets are going fast, especially now that the lineup has been announced. Golf has been beloved in this city for over a century: since the 1873 founding of the Royal Montréal Golf Club, the oldest in North America. The Royal Montréal will be only the second non-American club to ever host the Presidents Cup more than once.
A stellar lineup ahead
There are some major PGA stars coming to Montréal! Watch here for a play-by-play as the historic event nears.
U.S. Team Captain Jim Furyk has picked Keegan Bradley, along with Presidents Cup rookies Brian Harman and Russell Henley, plus veterans Sam Burns, Max Homa and Tony Finau. They join the six automatic picks, the top players of the year’s PGA Tour season: World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, two-time major winner Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark and Sahith Theegala.
Canadian golf great Mike Weir, Captain of the international team, has picked Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith and rookie Mackenzie Hughes, along with his three other selections: Si Woo Kim, Min Woo Lee and Christiaan Bezuidenhout. They'll be joining the six automatic picks: Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Jason Day and Byeong Hun An.
Second time’s a charm
The last time Montréal hosted the Presidents Cup was the truly memorable 2007 tournament, held at Royal Montréal over four temperate September days. Although four-time captain Jack Nicklaus led the United States to victory over three-time captain Gary Player and the International Team by a score of 19 ½ — 14, it remains a highlight of Canadian golf history as Mike Weir beat then-world No. 1 Tiger Woods in a Sunday singles match.
As Weir told the CBC, he remembers the 2007 tournament fondly: “The turnout, the crowds, were huge and very into it. I expect 2024 will be the same.” He’s stoked to return to the course among the world’s greatest golf talents gathering in Montréal in September, taking over the Royal Montréal once more.
Montréal’s golfing glory
The Royal Montréal is only one of Montréal’s excellent courses, both on the island of Montréal and in the surrounding areas. It’s currently celebrating its 151st year, making it a gem of a golf course that has truly withstood test of time. For directions to it and to find the best place to park, make sure to check out this guide on their site.
If inspiration strikes you, there are many notable courses within an hour’s drive of Montréal and no shortage of quality links to choose from for avid golfers and beginners alike. So when’s tee time?
