While I’m usually the first to jump at the chance for a movie night at home, there’s a lot to be said for the tried-and-true dinner and a movie when you want to go out on a date or just have fun with friends. From quirky to indy to box office blockbusters, Montréal’s cinemas show it all, with nearby restaurants to add a delicious touch to your night out. Here are my top picks, all within a 10-minute walk from movie theatres!
Cinéma Beaubien
Nestled in the heart of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie, this independent cinema is an important part of Montréal's heritage and a local hotspot. It's my favourite place to discover the latest releases on the big screen.
- For a quick meal: Sandwicherie Sue is located right next to the cinema and offers generous, mouth-watering banh mi sandwiches, along with other delicious Vietnamese treats. If the weather is fine, I recommend ordering takeout and sitting in Molson Park across the street to enjoy the lively neighbourhood vibe before or after your movie.
- For a fun night out: You just watched a comedy and want to keep the good times rolling? A quick stop at the Randolph Gaming Pub on Beaubien Street offers a fun night of chance and strategy, alongside a long list of local beverages and sharable comfort food. Or, head a few metres down the street to stop at La Limette for authentic Mexican tacos that will have you clamoring for more!

- Good neighbourhood restaurants: Head to Caribou Gourmand to enjoy expertly prepared local cuisine, or visit Le Bay Cà Phê, an excellent Vietnamese restaurant with a cozy atmosphere.
- Microbreweries: Just a stone's throw from the cinema, you'll find two renowned microbreweries offering a great variety of small dishes and excellent beers: Siboire Saint-Laurent and Dieu du Ciel!

Halfway between Little Italy and Villeray, and just a stone's throw from the Jean-Talon market, this small neighbourhood cinema located at Casa d’Italia is at the heart of Montréal's most foodie-friendly area. It's the perfect spot to plan a great evening that combines a cinematic discovery with a delightful meal.

They offer a fantastic selection of beers that rotate regularly, paired with delicious shareable plates. A little further down on Boulevard Saint-Laurent, Birra Bar serves up their own exclusive brew in addition to a long list of craft beers in a cozy, inviting atmosphere.

At La Cinémathèque Québécoise, film lovers delight in excellent retrospectives that offer the chance to (re)discover classic films on the big screen. At Cineplex Odéon Quartier Latin, you can enjoy all the latest releases in spacious, comfortable theatres.

Just a few steps away, on Prince-Arthur street, I recommend Arepera to discover the delicious yet still little known Venezuelan cuisine that’s absolutely irresistible.
