Montréal says BONJOUR!

Structure Bonjour

Montréal says, in a word: BONJOUR! Tourisme Montréal just unveiled a new emblematic structure on the shores of the St. Lawrence, at the Grand Quay, that conveys the very spirit of the city. Writ large, in oversized sculpted letters crafted right here in Montréal, the message of BONJOUR displays the welcoming nature of the city for all that call it home, whether for a day or a lifetime.

“BONJOUR is a signature that’s both universal and unique, which embodies Montréal’s one-of-a-kind spirit of welcome as well as its French roots,” says Tourisme Montréal CEO Yves Lalumière.

The BONJOUR emblem is an added attraction to the already buzzing Old Port of Montréal. As Montréal’s answer to the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign, the “Hollywood” sign, or even the Statue of Liberty or the Eiffel Tower, it’s the new go-to location for all visitors who want to capture their trip to the city. Get ready to see it ‘grammed!

The letters were constructed locally out of steel and local wood, on a consciously human scale in order to meld gracefully with the environment while achieving maximum impact. With one side featuring a chrome-polished shine and the other displaying the ruggedness of its structure, the structure is a four-season work of art. It includes heating elements which, in the colder months, will keep it from being overwhelmed by snow.

The location of BONJOUR was carefully chosen as well: its vantage point provides a jaw-dropping view of the city, with the most handsome structures of downtown Montréal laid out for all to admire. With twinkly lights that add extra oomph as the sun sets, the structure will reflect the beauty of the city to perfection.

The project has been made possible thanks to the contribution from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.

BONJOUR says it all: Montréal lays out the red carpet and greets all visitors with open arms.
